ACCOMMODATION

The University of Hertfordshire is based in Hatfield, a town just 20 minutes to central London by train. There is plenty to see and enjoy while you study there, surrounded by the beautiful British countryside of Hertfordshire, whilst also being able to experience the highs of London living within close reach.

Just a short distance away from the campuses are four international airports making it easier to travel from almost any country in world!

Living at the University of Hertfordshire you will be able to enjoy the facilities on one of the multi-million pound campuses at one of the safest University location in the East of England. They also offer guaranteed accommodation for all first year International students.

All of the accommodation is based right next door to where you will be studying. With a friendly student environment you won't have to worry about finding somewhere close to stay when you arrive.

You can choose between:

  • On campus accommodation - Also known as halls of residence. This type of accommodation is University-run. You can live on either College Lane or de Havilland campus, regardless of where you're studying. 
  • Off campus accommodation - Hatfield and the surrounding area is well equipped with plenty of private accommodation.

LIVING EXPENSES

When travelling to the UK to start your degree, remember to bring enough funds to cover the cost of living plus all your fees (including tuition and accommodation fees). 

You will need access to funds until you have registered at the University and opened a bank account.

It can take 2 - 4 weeks to open a bank account in the UK, so bring a small amount of British pounds (GB£ sterling) with you for your day-to-day expenses.

  • Weekly living expenses 

It is estimated that you will need between £190 and £240 per week for living expenses.  Below is a breakdown of this figure showing average costs. 

  • Food: £45 
  • Laundry: £10 
  • Telephone: £15 
  • Travel: £20 
  • Rent*: £60 to £176

*Cost for rent will vary depending on if you live on or off campus and in a shared or single room.

  • Utilities heating/light*: £20 

*Costs for heating and light is included if you stay in University campus accommodation.

  • Miscellaneous: £20 
  • Other costs 

You may also need to find money to cover additional one-off expenses on arrival, or during your time in the UK, for example:

  • Study equipment (including books): £320 to £740 
  • Personal Computer or laptop: £1000 
  • Warm clothing: £400 to £450 
  • Trips, holidays and social events: £500
