OVERVIEW

NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, is an internationally renowned fashion, art and design academy located in Milan and Rome, the two capitals of Italy’s world-famous design, art and fashion scene.

Founded in 1980, NABA is the largest private art academy in Italy offering accredited bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Italian and in English language, and has recently counted the highest number of students from all over the world among Italian AFAM (Higher Education in Art, Music and Dance System) Fine Arts schools.

It offers academic degrees in the design, fashion design, communication and graphic design, media design and new technologies, set design and visual arts areas.

Students at NABA can develop their creativity while preparing for the professional word. NABA has spent decades cultivating relationships with prestigious design companies and studios, and students will have the chance to work on real-world project briefs given by these companies. The emphasis on hands-on practice, balanced with lectures about art and design theory, is what makes NABA’s academic methodology so successful and unique.

The Milan campus, set in the beautiful and historic Navigli area, comprises of 13 modern buildings, while the new Rome campus occupies two historical buildings. Both campuses offer design laboratories, cutting-edge tools, student spaces and a library. Among our alumni, the employment rate within one year from graduation is 92%.

Laboratories

NABA features numerous specialised laboratories where students can use professional tools for complex and interdisciplinary projects in the Design, Fashion Design, Media Design and New Technologies, Visual Arts Areas.

Students have the opportunity to experience firsthand the team work, in which the several fashion, design, communication, new technologies and art professionals confront each other and collaborate.

Design Labs are equipped with numerous state-of-the-art tools and machines. They have the standard equipment of tools and power tools, together with a milling cutter, lathes, a circular saw, band saws, a painting booth, and a professional thermoforming machine. Students can carry on their projects and train thanks to the specialised sections: Light Modelling, for working with polystyrene and making studio models; Wood and Plastic, for complex machining processes; Laser Cut and 3D Printer and CNC control, to create 3D models and prototypes, cut and engrave, create 3D items.

Fashion Design Labs enable students to perform tailoring activities, from the first steps to the most complex projects, thanks to state-of-the-art machines and tools (such as Framis machine, Lectra System or Shima Seiki machine). The Sewing Lab is equipped with industrial sewing machines, presses, and professional irons and standers, as well as male, female and child dummies. In the Textile Laboratory there is drying equipment for fabrics and equipment for silk screen printing. The Knitwear Laboratory and Textile Library is equipped with knitting machines and it is also a place for research and in-depth information, with its collection of 4000 fabric samples, most of which have been coded and provided with data sheets.

The Media Design Laboratory is divided into different sections to cover the different disciplinary areas. In the Medialab, students can use audio/video equipment (professional digital cameras, like RED Gemini, video cameras, lenses, monitors, lighting, microphones). The Lighting Technology Laboratory - Green Screen is a completely dimmed space for the purpose of setting up photo and video sets, with standard equipment (light bridge sets, different colour backdrops and various types of light). The Techlab provide students with tools for audio and video post-production, editing, colour correction, visual effects, sound recording and mixing, 2D and 3D animation and VR.

Visual Arts Area Laboratories are dedicated to the several disciplines of artistic representation and enable students training with techniques and materials. The Painting Laboratory (Studio) provides easels, spaces and benches equipped for individual work. The Etching and Gravure laboratory is also fully equipped for printing. Students can also benefit from a Darkroom, specifically intended for developing photographic film.

EU students (and students from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland which are part of the Schengen Area)

If the Student (and his/her family) has been resident in a country belonging to the European Union for at least 3 years and the income is produced within the European Union, the fee can be adjusted to your family income per year and can range:

Bachelor Programmes

from €7.100/year, if your family earns less than €45,000 per year
and up to €18.200/year, if your family earns over €150,000 per year

ACCOMMODATION

NABA supports its students in finding accommodation in private apartments and/or managed by selected providers.

On NABA Housing website you can find studio apartments, single rooms or shared with other students, located near the Campus, including photos, costs, location and services. 

The costs range goes from €375 to €1,500 in both locations.

LIVING EXPENSES

Your monthly costs can vary depending on your campus city, as well as the type of accommodation and your lifestyle, but on average, you may need between €900 and €1700 a month.

Rome and Milan are known to be expensive (2 most expensive cities in Italy).

WHEN TO APPLY

NABA has 2 intakes per year - there is an October and February study start.

Applications are accepted until up to one month before the program beginning, however, if you need a visa to study in Italy, please keep in mind that you should leave yourself enough time to apply for it, as well as have enough time to make all the preparations such as accommodation and travel. Therefore, we advise to apply as early as possible.

Rome is an international city, in fact, in addition to being the capital of Italy and where the Italian government and parliament are based, international organisations such as the UN and FAO are located here, as are the embassies of foreign countries. For this reason, it counts millions of international presences every year, comprising not only tourists, but also professionals, diplomats and students from all over the world. Rome’s central location enables students to easily reach all area's of Italy.

The new NABA Campus in Rome occupies two historical buildings of early 20th century located in the Ostiense district, a former industrial area between the railway station and the Tiber, where today the artistic and cultural heritage meets contemporary culture, becoming one of the most creative and young place in the city.

The campus covers an area of approximately 3,500 sqm with specialised laboratories, a library, study and lounge spaces.

Milan campus 

The capital city of Made in Italy, it is a dynamic city with a strong international focus that proposes a model of cultural growth in continuous expansion.

By studying in Milan, you will be able to enter this creative system and the synergy of its international excellence in the areas of fashion, design, art and communication.

NABA Campus in Milan is located near the Navigli area, one of the liveliest areas of the city, and it is inserted in a historical architectural complex consisting of 13 buildings spread over approximately 17,000 sqm including study and lounge areas dedicated to students, specialised laboratories, a library, a green area, and a cafeteria.
