OVERVIEW

We are one of the UK’s Top 25 universities (Guardian University Guide 2019). We have a five star rating for teaching, employability, internationalisation, facilities and innovation (QS Top University Guide 2018). Our teaching is rated Gold in the UK Government’s Teaching Excellence Framework.

With courses designed to meet the challenges of the competitive global jobs market, you’ll be well prepared for a successful life after graduation. 97.5 per cent of our graduates are working or in further study within six months (DHLE 2017). And we are the UK’s number one university for boosting graduate salaries (The Economist 2017).

A new breed of university, we believe in your potential – and we want to help you thrive in the world. We welcome over 5,000 international and EU students from around 150 countries. Because we are always looking to the future. And we know that the future is global.

Now let’s talk about your future. We’re here to support your education, ambitions and wellbeing. That means giving you life-changing learning and career opportunities. It means matching our teaching to your needs, and the needs of employers. What’s more, it means helping you with every aspect of settling, living and learning in the UK – from housing to health, to managing money and more.

Choose from hundreds of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees spanning business, creativity and culture, humanities, science and technology. We focus on making you more employable, so you could enjoy paid work placements, or practice your skills in simulated environments like our mock courtroom.

We’re dedicated to helping you get the best from your time here. You can enrich your experience by learning a language for free, volunteering at a charity, or exchanging with another global university. And our Careers and Employability experts can connect you to opportunities including part-time work while you study and your first job after graduation. Because we believe in you.

LOCATION

Located on England’s south coast, Portsmouth is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city with some of the UK’s best weather. Most university buildings are in the heart of our compact city. Everything you need is close by, including: four miles of beautiful beach, excellent nightlife and entertainment, and the historic castle and dockyard.

Our Students’ Union offers 150 sports clubs and societies for all interests, so there’s always a lot of fun to be had on campus. Portsmouth is the UK’s most affordable city for students (NatWest Student Living Index 2016) and offers laid-back coastal lifestyle. But the bright lights of London are just 90 minutes away, and ferries cross regularly to France and Spain.

LIVING EXPENSES

As well as your study costs, you'll also need enough cash to support yourself while you’re at uni. Most students use a maintenance loan to help cover living costs.

Portsmouth is one of the most affordable places in the UK for students. These were average weekly outgoings for our students in 2017.
