Programme structure

The Master’s specialisation in Water and Environment is taught at the Faculty of Science. It has a course load of 120 EC* (two years). The first year of this specialisation contains five compulsory courses in the first quartile. You can compose the rest of the programme with specialisation and free electives, internships, literature theses and optionally a field course in Ireland or Switzerland. Career opportunities

After graduation, about one third of the students quickly take up a position as a researcher and one-third start working as a policy officer at a governmental organisation or an NGO. The rest of the students usually choose for a position in the industry, for example, as a risk analyser of toxic substances. In general, the graduates end up as a:

- Researcher at a university or research institute
- Researcher in a company, either a large or a start-up company
- Researcher at a governmental research institute
- Consultant at a governmental agency, like a ministry
- Consultant at a consulting firm
- Risk analyser
- Policy officer at a governmental organisation or an NGO
- Project coordinator in water or ecosystem management
- Communications officer at an environmental organisation
- Teacher in biology (College or secondary education level)
