Programme structure

The Master’s specialisation in Urban and Cultural Geography is taught at the Nijmegen School of Management. It has a course load of 60 EC* (one-year) and offers space for elective courses, with which students can give their programme their own personal finishing touch. The structure of the programme is presented here.

Career opportunities

The Master’s specialisation in Urban and Cultural Geography provides graduates entry into rapidly growing sectors of the job market, be it government, business, or academia. Graduates will be able to apply the scientific insights and practical skills acquired to topics as varied as development and marketing of cities, multiculturalism and integration, innovative and creative urban milieus, urban identities, and cultural industries.

With expertise gained during this Master’s, a graduate can be employed in a wide range of jobs, both in and outside the Netherlands, for example:

- Government agency: as city manager, city marketer, city planner, integration agent, city-network manager, PR- manager, etc.
- Semi-government agencies such as development agencies, cultural planning agencies, but also research institutes: as researcher, consultant, advisor, policymaker, etc.
- Private industry: as event manager, museum director, city marketer, consultant, journalist, innovation consultant, communication officer, or media specialist.
- Education: as a geography teacher in secondary, tertiary, or vocational education.
