Programme structure

The Master’s specialisation in Globalisation, Migration and Development is taught at the Nijmegen School of Management. It has a course load of 60 EC* (one-year) and offers space for elective courses, with which students can give their programme their own personal finishing touch. The structure of the programme is presented here.

Career opportunities

With expertise gained during this Master’s, a graduate can be employed in a wide range of jobs, both in and outside the Netherlands, for example:

- Policymaker or programme researcher for city municipalities focusing on integration and multicultural issues, especially in the low-income neighbourhoods
- Policy development expert for Provincial Governments
- Policy expert on the reception of asylum seekers/refugees and the related human development challenges
- Policy expert or field officer for ministries or NGOs, to, for example, visit developing countries to establish business contracts with local farmer organisations
- Research or programme officer for a development aid related organisation such as Nuffic, Cordaid, VSO, SNV, Novib/Oxfam, Hivos and COS (Association of Centres for international cooperation at the provincial level), or a migrant (umbrella) organisation
- PhD candidate researching migration and development, health and urbanisation, the rural impact of globalisation, and such
- Academic researcher at a university or research institute involved with migration and globalisation: e.g. MPI, IOM, Refugee Studies Centre in Oxford
- Geography teacher in secondary, tertiary or vocational education
