Programme structure

With a focus on design for mobile and digital networked media this pathway brings practical design work together with the latest thinking about digital media, digital cities, remix and mobile cultures.

An emphasis on research ensures your work is grounded in the key current critical debates within the communication design discipline. This also ensures your designs and design practices have relevance, impact and power in a distributed media space.

One such debate is the role of the designer in a remix culture where source material everywhere means anyone can and does design, where your carefully produced work can be remixed, reused, re-contextualised or reworked. How do you design when you no longer have control?
A wide range of subjects are covered on the programme include the history of fashion, fashion writing, the fashion industry, fashion manufacture, fashion retailing, collection and range planning. Fashion Management can operate from an exclusive bespoke level through to mass produced goods and services. The thinking and skills you will develop embrace the huge varieties of contexts in which Fashion Management works.

The programme helps you build a critical awareness of Fashion Management and a great array of Fashion applications as it embraces a huge variety of products and services, targeted at all ages, ethnic backgrounds and ‘pockets’. It will expose you to the challenges faced by Fashion Management in engaging with sophisticated consumers.

Visiting professionals and guest speakers will share their experiences with you, complemented by study visits, lectures and seminars. You will have the opportunity to develop the critical thinking and skills required for a successful career in Fashion Management. Such thinking and skills will enable you to respond positively to the changing demands of clients and consumers.

The programme enables you to think of Fashion Management as a means to nurture your own entrepreneurial venture, or to join the Fashion industry at management level.
Through lectures, practical workshops and seminars, WSAmacd takes on these big questions and equips you with the practical and theoretical skills to deal with them.

By the end of the course you will have completed a portfolio of creative work, developed your professional skills and gained the analytical and design production competences to secure employment in the media and design industries, start your own business, or pursue further research.
