Programme structure
• In your first year, you will take a balance of English and Spanish modules. Studying English you will explore the form and material context of different literary narratives, and debates in critical theory. In your Spanish modules you will be allocated to a stage of language proficiency and introduced to the study of Spanish cultural forms, political and historical issues.
• In your second year you will choose from a wide range of Spanish language and English literary topics from the medieval period to Latin American culture.
• You will spend your third year in a country where Spanish is spoken. Your year abroad is an opportunity to improve linguistic and cultural proficiency in your chosen language and to demonstrate your ability to work independently over a sustained period.
• In your final year you will consolidate your knowledge and skills as a linguist and independent researcher in literary studies with the option of completing a dissertation on a literary topic of your choice.
