Overview

Accredited by The Institution of Engineering and Technology

Coventry is a world-renowned centre for motorsport and performance
engineering on both two wheels and four. Excellent links with the UK
performance engineering industry ensure that the course benefits from
the latest technical content and provides you with broad and detailed
coverage of the essentials of motorsport engineering and its key
applications.

Our Motorsport Engineering degree course will equip you with the
necessary expertise for you to make a significant and early
contribution to both industry and society as a graduate motorsport
engineer.

*If you choose this course you will benefit from: *

  • Accreditation from the Institution of Engineering and Technology
(IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) at the
Incorporated Engineer level. This course will be submitted to the
Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of
Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) for Chartered Engineer accreditation.
  • Close links with employers in the performance engineering
industry, including Red Bull Racing, the Auto-Cycle Union, Lotus Cars,
    Penske Racing and Triumph Motorcycles
  • Regular lectures delivered by the Institution of Mechanical
Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology
    (IET)
  • Placement opportunities with a wide variety of motorsport and
performance engineering companies, across a range of disciplines
  • The chance to be involved in exciting projects, such as Formula
    Student and Shell Eco-marathon.

In the first two years you will study modules designed to broaden
your knowledge of motorsport engineering, as well as to further your
understanding of the fundamental concepts of engineering such as
stress, temperature, kinematics and dynamics. As you enter year three
you will have the opportunity to select a range of option modules on
top of your mandatory study to tailor your degree to your own
requirements and specialise in subjects that interest you.

Over the course of the three-year programme you will enjoy an ideal
balance between theoretical and practical study, covering such modules
as Manufacturing Technology and Materials, Mechanical Science,
Thermofluid Mechanics, Design and Sustainability, Performance
Engineering, Design for Performance, Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics,
Powertrain, Advanced Materials and Manufacture, and the Motorsport
Group Project.
