OVERVIEW

Do you want to contribute to a more sustainable world and work on your personal development? Study at Van Hall Larenstein, the most sustainable University of Applied Sciences in The Netherlands! VHL offers a range of unique English-taught Bachelor and Master programmes in fields in which The Netherlands performs at the top. So whether you are interested in nutrition or international trade, are looking for a bachelor degree in the equine sports industry or want to work on the United Nations Sustainability Goals, they have the right programme for you.

The university has close connections to the international business world and NGO’s. This allows students to apply the theory into practice: besides obtaining highly valued work experience during internships abroad, students go on excursions at companies where they work on real life cases and follow guest lectures from professionals from the work field. Right from the start you will develop a professional network of students and colleagues from all over the world. This will give you a head start on the job market!

At VHL the teaching style is interactive and student-centred. Lines of communication are short: students work in small classes with personal attention from the lecturers. Coaching and guidance is offered to enhance personal and professional development.

LOCATION & ACCOMMODATION

The university is based in two locations, Leeuwarden and Velp (Arnhem). Both are medium sized student cities with lots of international students and affordable housing and living costs. The environmental friendly building in Leeuwarden has a green house on the roof. Canals flow though the city and the Dutch islands are only a short trip away. In Velp, VHL is located on the Larenstein Estate. The modern building is surrounded by luscious greenery, only a few minutes away from the vibrant city centre of Arnhem.

Many private housing agencies offer affordable student housing in Velp (Arnhem) and Leeuwarden. They offer a range of different furnished or unfurnished rooms, generally costing between €300 – €450 a month which are amongst the lowest prices in The Netherlands. Van Hall Larenstein can assist you in your search.

LIVING EXPENSES

In Holland the cost of living is considerably lower than in English-speaking countries. There are many discount supermarkets and transport costs are low if you use a bike. Next to that, bars, restaurants, museums and cinema’s often give student discounts. A lot of students have a part-time job to cover study and housing costs and to get some valuable work experience. Keep in mind that it might take international students a bit longer to find a job if they don’t speak any Dutch and that non-EU students require a work permit.
