Programme structure

Every academic year in the Computing Science Bachelor’s programme is divided into four quarters of ten weeks each. Every quarter consists of eight weeks of classes followed by two weeks of exams.

In the first year, you are introduced to several programming languages and are taught how to design, analyse, implement, and test programmes. You will analyse complex issues – such as the workings of a robot or voice computer – and reduce them back to a model. To do this you make use of mathematical formulas, formal languages, and logics. At the end of the year you choose two specialisations to further deepen your knowledge in the second and third year. Students can choose two specialisations from three options: Software Science, Data Science, or Cyber Security.

In the second and third year, you can choose between two specialisations: Software and Data Science or Cyber Security. These specialisations account for 20% of the courses you take.
Next to the specialisation, you extend your understanding of programming languages, algorithms, operating systems, multi-core programming, and information systems. You’ll learn how to do scientific research and write scientific documents. You also reflect on the impact of ICT in society.

In the third year, you deepen your understanding of programming languages, algorithms, operating systems, multi-core programming, and information systems. And you’ll follow courses in your specialisation. The first semester offers possibilities for a stay abroad or a minor.

Career opportunities

Computing Science at Radboud University trains you to become a computer scientist who can work in a broad array of fields. You decide what you want to specialise in! Companies are dying to take on our students. Students often find a job before graduating. The possibilities are endless. Will you become an information and software analyst? Or would you rather become an advisor or manager in a corporation or government? Maybe you want to be a researcher for a company, a university, or a research institution like TNO? Perhaps you will become an entrepreneur and build your own business, like a lot of our students. In other words, with a Computing Science diploma, you are never out of a job!
