Entry qualification | Undergraduate diploma (or higher) The following Bachelor’s degrees qualify students for admission to the Master of science in Engineering degree programme in Mechanical Engineering if mathematical competencies in extent and content equal to at least 20 ECTS on Bachelor level in Calculus, Ordinary Differential Equations, Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Vector Differential- and Vector Integral Equations can be documented.
NB! the programme only admits a limited number of students. Evaluation is made on the basis of the average mark (i.e. GPA) of the Bachelor’s degree at the time of application. Marks/grades obtained after the application deadline will not be included in the GPA. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Danish / Norwegian / Swedish. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original. If the documents mentioned above are not in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish or English, they must be accompanied by translations into English. Diplomas and transcripts must always be translated into English and certified by either your home institution or a certified translator. If your university does not provide official course descriptions in English, your course descriptions may be translated by yourself, but the translations must always be certified by your home institution. Documents translated by a certified translator should always be certified. You must take verified copies of the entry qualification documents along with you when you finally go to the university. |

Language requirements | English IELTS: Academic test result of at least 6.5 points equivalent of C1 level. 6.5/B2 level is no longer accepted NB! Your language test results cannot be older than 2 years (incl. CAE, CPE). When you sign up for an IELTS or TOEFL test, you must also ask the test institution to send your test results to AU. The university will use the results sent by the testing institution to validate your document. The Aarhus University TOEFL code is 8935 (select “Other department not listed”). It is possible to apply for admission before you have taken your English language test and obtained the required result. Instead you must submit documentation that you have signed up for a test. |

Overview
How do you design the blades of a wind turbine? How do you calculate the lifetime of a computer chip or a fuel cell? How do you analyse the dynamics of a racing car? These are just some of the questions the MSc in Mechanical Engineering programme explores.
The programme provides students with the opportunity to apply theory to practical issues, with scope for interdisciplinary collaboration. You will gain a sound understanding of advanced calculation methodologies, such as the finite element method (FEM) and multidisciplinary simulation tools. You will study topics such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD), structural dynamics and modal analysis, and fracture mechanics and fatigue. The basis for these competencies includes continuum mechanics, elasticity theory and plasticity theory.
Career opportunities
Graduates find work in a wide range of fields, from basic engineering or science research in joint projects involving research institutes and the industrial sector, to research and development projects in the industry. Many graduates of MSc Mechanical Engineering have gone on to working within research and development departments at industrial enterprises, whilst others choose to do a PhD in Denmark or abroad
