Overview
This programme enables you to negotiate the content of your own part-time honours degree. Programme content builds upon work-based (or work-related) elements, as well as your own prior learning. You will also explore new areas of learning through taught courses.
You will devise your programme in consultation with your employer and university tutor. The programme is also useful preparation for career progression if you have work experience but are not currently in paid employment.
Academic credits can be awarded for your previous ‘experiential’ learning. This may have been informal, and you may have viewed it as part of becoming more experienced in your work. You will be guided in making a claim for this.
You may also have taken short courses which were not part of a degree but for which an award was given. Credit may be awarded for this learning, either directly or through a vocational award conversion course.
Overall, the programme will enable you to become an effective, informed and reflective honours graduate who is able to apply academic study to the workplace.
A foundation degree is also available.
The aims of the programme are:
To provide you with a progression route to honours degree level
To enhance your continuing personal and professional development
To provide academic recognition for prior experiential and other work-based learning.
Programme structure
The content of this programme is negotiable, but students gain core, key and transferable skills and a knowledge of subjects useful for their careers.
Career opportunities
The programme is designed to assist individuals’ personal development. It can enhance and develop promotion opportunities, as well as open up avenues to possible postgraduate study and new areas of employment.
