Programme structure
The BA (Hons) Financial Economics programme is designed to prepare you for a wide variety of activities, functions and professional skills, all of which are demanded by today’s finance and business sector.
The programme also focuses on the application of modern finance and business theories to modern financial issues, helping prepare you to reach conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. You’ll be able to develop a wide range of cognitive and intellectual skills, together with competences specific to business and enterprise.
The first year of your programme will provide a solid grounding in business functions, its operating environment, principles of economics and its importance in business.
During the second and later years of the programme, there will be flexible learning opportunities to specialise in the financial economics subject area, tailoring the programme to a specific career aim.
A wide variety of assessment methods are used, and throughout the programme you will be expected to deliver reports, presentations, exams and essays.
Career opportunities
This course as it gives you the flexibility to specialise in the area you want to work in during your third year. This means you can tailor your learning to meet your specific career aspirations.
Our graduates move into many different specialist and more general roles. For example, one recent graduate went to work for Network Rail as a capacity planner, while another went to gemstone specialist Rocks and co as a data analyst. You can even go into a career that you might not have thought of, for instance one graduate has gone to Royal Bank of Scotland as mortgage processor.
