Programme structure
The “Bio and Environmental Technology” course offers a unique combination of biotechnological and environmentally relevant subject areas in Austria. In addition to technical and scientific know-how, language skills, personality-building and economic skills are also taught. Around half of the events are lectures or practical exercises. Incidentally, more than 50% of the students are women!
Focus of the training
The bachelor’s degree in “Biotechnology and Environmental Technology” focuses on conveying the common technical / scientific principles of biotechnology and environmental technology and with specializations in selected areas (compulsory elective modules) in one of the two subject areas.
The focus of the training is on environmental process engineering, the procedural implementation of biotechnological processes and dealing with “living systems”; and their behavior towards external influences.
In the first three semesters, all students complete a basic course in the fields of biotechnology and environmental technology. From the 4th semester, the focus can be placed on one of the two specializations in biotechnology or environmental technology.
The subject areas in biotechnology include the use of biotechnological applications in environmental technology, the integrated use of biological and biochemical processes in industrial and commercial systems, as well as the production of biological and synthetic raw materials (e.g. drugs, antibiotics, diagnostics, etc.) ) in the biomedical field. Furthermore, the food industry is an industry that benefits greatly from biotechnology in both the production and development of food.
In environmental technology The focus is on topics such as disposal, recycling, analysis, the use of environmentally optimized energy systems and the avoidance of waste by designing environmentally friendly production processes and products.
