The master’s degree in “Embedded Systems Design” provides training for the future field of embedded and smart systems . The global increase in digitalization and networking is affecting more and more devices in our everyday lives and turning them into “smart products”.
Examples of these intelligent and networked products are the intelligent thermostat or voice assistant in the smart home, the sporty smart watch for the health and fitness sector, the assistance systems for piloted driving in the “smart car”, or the networked robot in industrial automation.
All of these systems have built-in, modern computer technology . On the one hand, it includes intelligent components such as microprocessors, sensors, integrated software and optional real-time operating systems. On the other hand, components are required for networking , for example to be able to exchange signals and data via networks, or to set up larger system networks, or to be able to use cloud services.
Security is increasingly developing into a key technology in the modern communications society, the availability of comprehensively trained specialists with knowledge of the technical, organizational and legal environment is falling behind the current requirements. Future areas of work for graduates of this degree include:
-System and security managers for online services (e-commerce operators, banks, authorities, Internet service providers)
-Realization of information systems in highly sensitive areas (e.g. in the judicial sector, medicine, security authorities)
-Planning and implementation of high-availability, secure network solutions (VPN, firewalls, IDS / IPS solutions, …)
-Digital copyright protection (e.g. for publishers, picture agencies, …)
-Realization of online media systems (e.g. pay TV, video on demand)
-Personal identification, authorization control, autom. Access systems
-Prevention and analysis of computer crimes, expert services.
