Programme structure
The economic, ecological and targeted use of materials and their efficient processing represent an essential competitive factor for Austrian industry. In view of the increasing quality requirements in production and the use of new materials, more and more skilled workers are needed who are familiar with the specific requirements in processing and using them Materials are familiar. The required quality of many products can only be achieved through appropriate processing techniques and their special effects on the material properties. Specific and coordinated processing methods make it possible to combine the desired functional and structural properties of products.
Focus of the training
The master’s course specializes in joining technology, lightweight construction and processing technology . Three elective groups are offered in the course: “ Plastics processing “, “ Metallic materials – steel “ or “ Metallic materials – light metals “. Specialization in one of these directions is necessary due to the breadth and complexity of the subject areas.
In Austria, no comparable training is offered as a FH degree. The concept and content of the “Materials Science & Manufacturing Technology” master’s course is therefore a unique specialist course!
Career opportunities
Graduate has the specialist knowledge and the ability to take up management positions in production and applied research and development. Companies particularly like to fill technical management positions with people with solid technical training.
Areas of application for graduates
Material processing and manufacturing
Welding technology and joining
techn. Product development and manufacturing
Applied research & development
Application technology
Production engineering
quality assurance

Customer support and advice in material and production engineering areas
Graduates of the master’s degree in “Materials Science & Manufacturing Technology” have in-depth and extensive knowledge of materials and their properties, behavior and possible applications, their processing and the necessary plant and process technology, the joining or joining of materials and material combinations as well as their Use in lightweight construction.
The fields of activity of the graduates include the areas of metal and plastics processing, joining and welding technology, application technology, technical product development and manufacturing, applied research and development, surface technology and quality assurance.
Graduates of this degree program are in demand in the following sectors:
-Automobile and aircraft construction
-Plant and mechanical engineering
-Sports equipment construction and development
-Manufacture of semi-finished products (e.g. plastic profiles, wires, sheets)
-Heat treatment
-Surface treatment and finishing
-Tool and Mold Making
Austria and Central Europe have a large number of economically very well developed companies in the areas mentioned! The willingness to invest in research and development is above average.
