Entry qualification | Undergraduate diploma (or higher) Bachelor’s degree from a Research University in Linguistics or a specific language such as German or Dutch. Students with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Information Studies can also apply, provided they have successfully completed at least 30 EC worth of real linguistics courses (language proficiency courses, for instance, do not count). Please provide a list of all courses you have taken and are taking including course content, the number of hours and literature used. See an example here. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / German / Dutch. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original. Programme structure
General Linguistics is taught at the Faculty of Arts. It has a course load of 60 EC* (one-year). Courses are typically 5 EC and the Master’s Thesis is 20 EC. The programme offers you the opportunity to pick and choose those courses that interest you the most in the field of Linguistics or related area. If your relevant language proficiency is good enough, you can also choose language-specific courses.
