Programme structure
During your AI programme, you will study core subjects like mathematics, neuroscience and computer science, as well as topics from psychology, logic, linguistics and philosophy. With this knowledge, you will develop computer models of human cognition as well as intelligent computer programmes that are able to execute tasks autonomously.
In the first year of the Bachelor’s programme in Artificial Intelligence, you will study computer science, mathematics, robotics, psychology and logic. You will also learn skills and techniques for conducting research, including statistics and how to design an experiment.
In the second year, you will be able to expand the depth and breadth of your knowledge of programming, mathematics, statistics and modelling skills. Furthermore, you will explore both the brain and the computer in greater depth.
In the third year of the Bachelor’s programme in Artificial Intelligence, you will choose 24 EC from the Restricted Elective courses and 24 EC Free Electives that personally interest you from this or other faculties of the university. Furthermore, the third year offers the opportunity of studying abroad and deepen your knowledge at one of our partner universities.
Career opportunities
After you have completed your studies and specialised in Artificial Intelligence, you will be well equipped for any number of positions when you enter the job market. You could find yourself working in any of a wide range of sectors, including education, healthcare, telecommunications, ICT, (crime scene) investigations, transport, or financial services – in short, wherever there is a need for intelligent systems. In addition to a job in the commercial sector, your thorough academic training will allow you the option of working as a researcher at a university or research institute in the Netherlands or abroad. Examples of jobs: data scientist, developer, advisor, innovation manager, or scientific researcher.
