Other requirements | At least 1 reference(s) must be provided. A motivation letter must be added to your application. We are looking for applicants who have a good understanding of the breadth of the profession and the diverse settings where Paramedics may now work. Work experience shadowing a Paramedic is very difficult to obtain. Many previous students have gained work experience with St John Ambulance, care/nursing homes (even on a voluntary basis) and working in customer facing settings – all of these will help students develop vital communication skills with people across the age spectrum. Additionally, knowledge of the profession may be gained through attending University open days or careers events, talking to qualified Paramedics, reading professional publications or researching online. The following websites may provide a helpful starting point; the College of Paramedics and Health and Care Professions Council, and Step into the NHS and NHS Careers. No offers will be made without Interview. Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee an interview, or a place on the course. All offers are subject to satisfactory Health Clearance and Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks. Students will be required to pay for the enhanced DBS check. Students will also be required to sign a Code of Conduct and Fitness to Practice disclosure on commencement of the course. The University strongly recommends that all students join the College of Paramedics – joining this professional body will enable you to access a wide range of academic material that will enhance your learning. Additional benefits include clinical negligence insurance that may be necessary for practice learning in some non-NHS practice placements. Driving licence It is not a requirement to be able to drive or hold the C1 licence before commencing the course. However, being able to drive and having access to a vehicle will make it very much easier for students to get to the various placements they will be allocated to during their time at University. We strongly recommend that you gain the C1 provisional entitlement during the course, as there is a medical that goes alongside it. Unfortunately, some people may not pass this. If you cannot get the C1 licence it does not stop you undertaking the programme, however it does limit your job prospects – please talk to a member of staff before you start the programme if you have any concerns. |
