Career opportunities
Civil and Structural engineering remain to be the world’s great professions, responsible for some of the world’s most incredible structural achievements – the 5,000-mile long Great Wall of China, the Burj Khalifa (the worlds tallest building at 828 m), the iconic Golden Gate Suspension Bridge and the Hoover Dam, (constructed using 2.5 million cubic metres of concrete).
In recent years, the demand for civil and structural engineers had continued to rise, particularly in countries such as Australia, Singapore, New Zealand and China. Construction projects relate to building to accommodate a growing global population, improvement of infrastructure and sustainable energy production.
As a graduate from this civil and structural engineering programme, you should be well-suited to working in a range of civil and structural engineering consultancies, contractors or client organisations. You will also have a sound base ultimately become a professionally qualified civil or structural engineer.
As well as the specific technical knowledge gained on the course, you will have the opportunity to gain a range of additional skills valued by employers – high numerical competency, literacy and digital literacy, strong leadership, organisation and team working skills. These skills are transferrable to a range of other professions, including management, banking, accountancy, software development and so on.
If you wish to take an industrial placement year, you will also receive support from our award-winning Faculty careers service, EEC Futures, which won the ‘Best Placement Service in the UK’ award at the National Undergraduate Employability Awards in 2015 and 2016.
Graduates from this course have gone on to work for engineering consultancies, contractors and local authorities, such as Arup, Atkins, Buro Happold, Mott MacDonald, Severn Trent and Warwickshire County Council.
