Entry qualification

High school / secondary education (or higher) A level grades AAA. GCSE English Language and Mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent). A-level Mathematics and at least one of the following A-level subjects: Physics, Electronics, or Further Mathematics. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original. You must take verified copies of the entry qualification documents along with you when you finally go to the university.

Language requirements	English Accepted proof of proficiency: Cambridge English, IELTS, TOEFL, Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or other equivalent IELTS: 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.0 in each band) TOEFL (IBT): Overall score of 80 or above, with at least 17 in Listening, 17 in Writing, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking CAE: Overall score of 169 or above, with at least 162 in each component

Professional Training can be used in partial fulfilment of the training component for Chartered Engineer status.

You will be assisted during the second year to find appropriate placements in industry, and we endeavour to ensure that the placement matches your interests and aspirations. Over many years, we have established strong relationships with industry and hence there is a great demand for our students.

This ensures that there are many interesting and challenging opportunities on offer. In recent years, we have had students in placements with 85 different companies within our Electronic Engineering programmes.

During the Professional Training year, you remain a member of the University but are also a paid, full-time company employee. You will be visited by an academic member of staff who monitors your progress and, in discussion with the company, decides on a programme of work that will develop your expertise.

The optional Professional Training placement starts at the end of the second academic year, when you have sufficient knowledge and practical experience to join companies as a practising ‘junior engineer’.
