Career opportunities
Studying Education and International Development at AU will provide unique opportunities to develop a range of skills sought by employers in a range of relevant sectors particularly in humanitarian contexts – from policy making perspectives to practical interventions. There will be opportunities for employability in global contexts and your connections through the placement modules will stand you in good stead. If you do not wish to work in that worldwide context there will be opportunities to move into careers within the field of social care, local policy and community developments, health education, social work, child and adult welfare, therapy, charitable organisations and aid and educational research. For those of you keen to explore your entrepreneurial flair there is plenty of opportunity and support here at AU to help you explore your own business ideas, funding options and follow in the footstep of departmental alumni who have already been through the process and now successfully manage their own business.
Further study is a popular option here at AU with many of our graduates moving on to study at primary PGCE level or opting to take a Masters. The wealth of core educational and developmental skills and other, more generic skills that you will develop during your degree can be easily transferred into almost any graduate or professional employment situation. The department additionally encourages students to seek wider internship activity during the summer vacation offering departmentally focused careers support to help source the right work experience opportunity to start profiling their career direction. You will be able to show a comprehensive understanding of major learning theories; respond critically to contemporary arguments; reflect upon your own practice as a working professional; evaluate the aims and impact of social policies; and consider the subject from multiple positions, such as from gender and cross-cultural perspectives.
