Programme structure
Your course in brief
Year 1
You will study core modules in Engineering Design, Engineering Science and Engineering Analytics, plus Professional and Technical Communication Skills, and Materials Engineering and Performance.
Year 2
You will begin to specialise with modules in: Thermal Conditioning Systems; Energy Systems; Fluid Systems; Engineering Management and Economics; and Electrical Lighting Systems.
Year 3
You will have the option to go out on an industrial placement to put the skills you have learned in the previous modules into professional practice, or on study abroad.
Year 4
You will study modules in Sustainable Energy Systems; Building Thermal and Visual Analysis; Low Carbon Thermal Systems; and Advanced Manufacturing Systems. You will undertake a major Investigative Project in a topic of your choice.
Career opportunities
By the end of this course you’ll be in an excellent position to apply for graduate roles related to mechanical and building services engineering. Some of our past graduates now have senior roles within engineering consultancies such as Buro Happold. Other graduates run their own businesses.
If you wish to undertake further study at postgraduate level, it may be possible to transfer to our integrated masters degree – MEng Mechanical and Architectural Engineering. If you wish to undertake further study at postgraduate level, we offer courses like MSc Engineering Management that will help you advance into management and develop skills in enterprise and entrepreneurship
