Entry qualification

High school / secondary education (or higher) One science A level required (Geography and Psychology will be considered as a science) although strong candidates without a science A level may be considered The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.

Language requirements	English Accepted proof of proficiency: Cambridge English, IELTS, TOEFL or other equivalent IELTS: 6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each band) TOEFL (IBT): Overall score of 88-89 or above, with at least 21 in Listening and Writing, 22 in Reading and 23 in Speaking CAE: 176 points overall with no component less than 162

Programme structure

Programme Year One

Students are introduced to the basic methods of archaeology and the main periods and areas taught at Liverpool. Students take six compulsory modules (plus two optional modules) which currently include:

The Origins of Humanity
Bronze Age Civilizations in Europe, the Mediterranean and the Near East
Empires and Citizens in the Classical Mediterranean and the Near East
From Boudicca to the Beatles – a Material Exploration of the British Past
Principles of Archaeology
The Practice of Archaeology

Programme Year Two

Students take two compulsory modules (Archaeological Excavation Skills and Artefacts and Technology), and then choose a further two modules from a selection that currently includes the following:

Programme Year Three

Students take four compulsory modules:

The dissertation (equivalent to two modules), which is a subject of the student’s choice researched in depth
Archaeology and Contemporary Society: ethics and politics
Students then choose their four remaining modules from a list of over 20, that currently includes the following:

Diet, Evolution and Culture. ALGYALGY330, Geoarchaeology
At least two of the chosen modules should be related to the dissertation topic.
