Programme structure
The French Studies half of your programme is designed to give you an in-depth knowledge of the country’s language and culture, with an emphasis on small-group teaching and encouraging student participation. Staff have diverse research interests and this means we are also able to offer a very broad syllabus across a range of subject areas including: film studies, literature, politics, history, translation studies, cultural studies, sociology, and even economics.
The Geography half of your programme will address key issues of today and tomorrow, such as climate change, water and ecosystem pollution, energy security, global economic problems, population pressure and a rapidly urbanising world. All of these factors have an impact on our daily lives, making this a rewarding and fulfilling subject to study. Here at Birmingham we have one of the UK’s most exciting Geography departments, with a large number of staff with specialisms in human, physical and environmental geography.
