Programme structure
Throughout your studies here, you will have the opportunity to explore not only the classical civilisations of Greece and Rome, but also the cultures of Egypt and Ancient Western Asia, as well as the Byzantine Empire, in a range of different optional courses.
Your learning here takes place in a variety of different contexts, such as lectures, seminars, interactive workshops, independent research, and field trips. You will be supported by outstanding library resources, and have access to departmental facilities including a small study library and our own museum collection.
Graduates of the department benefit from a higher than average rate of employability for the subject, with 90% going into work or study within six months of graduation. They typically pursue careers in domains such as the law, publishing and media, the civil service, NGOs and charities, business and management, and education at every level.
The programme is taught in the Department of Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology, ranked among the top five Russell Group departments of Classics in the Research Excellence Framework 2014.
