First year
Archaeology & Ancient History: In the first year, you gain a firm grounding in the archaeology of Britain and the Mediterranean world. In addition, small-group project work allows you to study a particular aspect of the ancient world in greater detail and develop your research skills. You will also choose 20 credits from our wide range of optional modules, including the option to gain practical archaeology experience and attend a two-week Field School.

Second year
Archaeology & Ancient History: In the second year, your compulsory modules build upon the foundations in the first. Artefacts and Material Culture charts the progress of artefacts “from mud to museum”, while Mediterranean and European Archaeology focuses on interactions between Mediterranean and Temperate Europe from the later Bronze Age through the Iron Age to the eve of the Roman expansion out of the Mediterranean. You will also choose from a wide range of options in history, archaeology, literature, culture, language, myth, religion, art and philosophy.

Year abroad
You can apply to study abroad for a year in an approved university around the world. If you achieve a grade of 2.1 or above in your first year then you will be invited to apply for a Year Abroad in your second year. Final year
Archaeology & Ancient History: The highlight of the final year is your dissertation: a substantial research project on a subject of special interest to you. You can choose to do this in either Archaeology & Ancient History or History. Depending on which Department you choose to do your dissertation in and your balance of study, you can also choose optional modules from our wide range of options.
