Entry qualification | Undergraduate diploma (or higher) Graduates of technical-scientific bachelor’s degree programmes in engineering with 180 ECTS points or more are entitled to apply. Applicants should prove at least 120 ECTS points in engineering courses of medical engineering/medical device technology. Graduates with degrees in other areas than Medical Engineering have to acquire additional credits in Medical Engineering: To obtain these additional credits the student has to The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / German. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original. Attention: if given preliminary admission, international applicants MUST provide legalised documents translated to German or English for the following documents: Legalisation confirms the authenticity of documents, signatures and authorities that issued the document. Programme structure
The curriculum is structured as follows and qualifies students to work as responsible medical engineers within international markets:
Deepening Scientific Fundamentals in Mathematics, Statistics and Selected Topics in Medicine [11,25 ECTS]
Medical Engineering Methods in Electronics, Biomechanics, Medical Device Software and Materials Technology (3 out of 4 elective modules) [30 ECTS]
Medical Technology Areas: Advanced Medical Imaging and Diagnosis Systems, Clinical Treatment Systems, Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Technology [17,5 ECTS]
Medical Systems Engineering and Project Work: Scientific fundamentals are applied in practise within a professional or scientific project work in close cooperation with a company, research institute or hospital in consideration of Regulatory Affairs [31,25 ECTS]
Master’s Thesis: students show their ability to work independently on a scientific based medical engineering topic and present their conclusions and own rationale [30 ECTS]
Career opportunities
Graduates are prepared for national and international leadership functions in medical product development and placing them into markets as well as for a further scientific career, for example for doctoral studies.
Therefor, medical engineers are working – for example – in development and applied research, engineering production, in the fields of regulatory affairs, quality and product management.
They also serve as qualified advisors and as experts for technical sales and marketing. The health care system needs medical engineers for the acquisition, care and maintenance of medical products. Further employers are the certification authorities and research facilities.
