Programme structure

Year 1

Students are required to study the following compulsory courses.

Child Development and Learning: Birth to Five Years (30 credits)
Leading and Managing in Early Years (30 credits)
Curriculum and Assessment in Early Years: Workplace Project (30 credits)
Keeping Children Safe from Harm (15 credits)
Students are required to choose 1 course from this list of options.

Mentor Preparation for the Children’s Workforce (15 credits)
Comparative International Social Policy – Without Study Visit (15 credits)

Career opportunities

Graduates have opportunities in early years settings, including nurseries, children’s centres, health and social care and community settings and schools. Students who wish to pursue a career in primary teaching after graduating will need to follow this degree with a PGCE primary programme (such as the PGCE Primary Education).
